EDOT ™ - "Engineered Design Occlusal Technique"
EDOT™, developed by Kenneth Guthrie, CDT, scientifically establishes the exact size, shape and position of each tooth in a restoration based on the functional criteria for each individual patient. Technicians have been taught to use tripod, lingualized, or other occlusal set-up techniques with little or no regard to how the patient actually functions when swallowing or chewing. Because patients do not all function in the same manner, it is useless to build the same occlusion for every case. With little information from the doctor, technicians using EDOT are assured that their occlusal set-ups will fit and function properly.
EDOT enables the technician to simply create precision occlusion, custom made for each patient. It establishes a level plane of occlusion (HIP) with the ideal curves of Wilson and Spee with the correct overbite and overjet. The height of each cusp and the depth of each centric stop (Landing Pads) are established along with the exact 3-dimensional position of the central incisors (F Point). EDOT in conjunction with the AccuLiner articulator delivers stable occlusion that is designed to function in harmony with the physiologic position of the patient's neuromuscular system, TM joints and the bones of the head and neck.
